How We Work

If you're deciding whether to work with us, this page breaks down our whole process of starting and managing projects.

01 — Reach Out

Fill out the project form. It takes five minutes: what you want to do, the property, and anything you already know about scope or timing. We read it same day, and if something's unclear we'll follow up with a question or two before anything else happens.

02 — Budget Range

Within 48 hours you'll have a rough idea of what your project will cost, based on real numbers from jobs like yours. This isn't a lowball to win a walkthrough; it's the honest range. If it doesn't fit your budget, you've spent five minutes and you know where you stand. If it fits, we schedule the site walk. On projects with genuine unknowns, we'll say so and tell you what it takes to pin the number down.

03 — Site Walk

We come walk the house. We measure, photograph, and check the systems your project touches, so the proposal is built on what's actually there instead of guesses. What you get back is a fixed-price proposal with the full scope in writing: what's included, what it costs, and how long it takes.

04 — The Build

A signed contract with a real schedule, and your project board goes live on day one: daily photos, weekly written updates, every decision documented. Any change to scope gets priced and signed before the work happens, and lien waivers are exchanged with every payment so your title stays clean. At the end, you get a close-out kit: warranty docs, finish specs, and care instructions for everything we built.

"We hired Spur Cross Construction for a whole-home remodel of our short-term rental property in Scottsdale, and we couldn't be happier with the results!

Since we live out of state, the entire project had to be managed remotely. Austin and Al made the whole process incredibly smooth, organized, and stress-free. They were great at communicating, keeping us updated on progress, and making sure everything stayed on track. Best of all, the project was completed on schedule!

The quality of the work was fantastic. Some of our favorite parts of the remodel are the theater room, the garage game room, and all the finishing touches throughout the house. The wallpaper and flooring turned out beautifully, and everything came together exactly how we envisioned it.

Austin and Al were a pleasure to work with, and it was reassuring knowing our property was in good hands even though we couldn't be there in person. We'd absolutely recommend Spur Cross Construction to anyone looking for a reliable contractor, especially if you're managing a renovation from out of state!"

FAQ

faq

Straight answers to the questions that matter: money, the work, and what it's like having us in your house.

Finances

How does your pricing work?

Fixed price on a written scope. We price from real numbers on jobs like yours, with quality trade partners at fair market rates. Nobody's getting lowballed in and surprised later, and nobody's padding the invoice. The price you sign is the price, and anything that changes it goes through a signed change order first. On projects with genuine unknowns we'll say so up front and give you a range instead, along with what has to happen to pin the number down.

What does the deposit and payment schedule look like?

Payments are tied to work, not promises. A deposit covers materials and mobilization, and from there you pay as phases complete, with lien waivers exchanged at every payment. You're never six figures ahead of the work. That structure protects you, and frankly it protects us too, because everyone always knows exactly where the money stands.

How do I know my money is safe?

You've seen the stories: homeowners handing six-figure deposits to a contractor who disappears or goes under. Our answer is structural. Progress payments mean you never pay far ahead of completed work. And your project's money stays with your project: we never use one client's deposit to finish another client's job, which is exactly how those contractors end up operating out of debt until it collapses. Every dollar maps to a line in your scope, and we're a licensed Arizona contractor (ROC 365478), which puts the state's regulations and Recovery Fund behind your project.

Work

Who actually does the work?

Al, our head of field operations, runs every site and does our carpentry, framing, and finish work himself. The trades are licensed partners, most of whom we've worked with for years. When someone new joins the network, they work under the same master agreement, insurance requirements, and supervision as everyone else. Either way, you'll know who's in your house.

How do you handle changes and disputes?

Everything in writing, before the work happens. Scope changes get priced and signed as change orders. Decisions made on calls and walkthroughs get documented on your project board, and we make a habit of recording and saving those conversations, so there's never a he-said-she-said. Most disputes in this trade are two people remembering differently. We resolve things from the record instead.

What happens if you find something unexpected?

We document it with photos, price the fix, and send a change order. Nothing gets done or billed until you sign off. Real example: on our last whole-home project we found subfloor damage from a condensate leak once the old flooring came up. Photographed it, priced it, got a signature, fixed it, and only then did the new floor go in. No mystery line item, no problem buried under new material.

Logistics

Do you handle permits?

Yes. We pull permits, schedule inspections, and deal with the jurisdiction. Phoenix, Scottsdale, Cave Creek, and the county all run different processes, and knowing which one your property actually falls under is part of the job.

What should I expect while the work is happening?

A crew that announces itself, treats your home with respect, and keeps the site organized: tools staged, dust contained, walkways clear at the end of every day. We'll also be straight with you - an active remodel has messy weeks, and we'll tell you which ones are coming. Daily photos and a weekly written update on your board, so you always know what happened and what's next.

Can I live in the house during the work?

Usually, yes. We'll tell you honestly at the assessment which phases are livable, and we keep the work area sealed so the rest of the house stays yours.

"What an absolute JOY it has been to have these men work on our house. They are personable, knowledgeable, and professional all the way! Over the years I have had many people come in to do work but I have never felt more comfortable and had greater trust with workers in our home as I have with these men! Their level of skill and willingness to help has been too great!"
